Touted as being the ‘Ultimate Islay Malt Whisky’, Ardbeg has developed a reputation by the powers-that-be in the world of fine whisky for being the peatiest and the most complex of all Islay malts. It really says something that an Islay whisky can beat all the distilleries of Speyside to be crowned ‘World’s Best Single Malt 2013’ at the World Whisky Awards held in London late last month. There are only eight active distilleries on Islay; Speyside has at least 50. Ardbeg also won ‘Best Islay Single Malt’ for the Ardbeg Galileo.

The recent Limited Edition 12-year-old Single Malt Whisky, Ardbeg Galileo, was released to pay homage to the distillery’s ground-breaking experiment in space. On October 30, 2011, samples of “Ardbeg-conceived molecules” took off for the International Space Station (ISS).

Jackie Thomson, Ardbeg’s distillery visitor center manager, swept home the third award. She was named the ‘Global Icon Visitor Centre Manager of the Year’ for her exceptional work ethic and knowledge of the Ardbeg brand.
