The demand for wine continues to soar, as evidenced by the swarms of oenophiles and record-breaking prices at wine auctions.
Sotheby’s has just announced that its global wine auction sales totalled US$ 64.5 million worldwide in 2012. Unsurprisingly Hong Kong posted the highest total of the three sale locations with a result of US$ 27 million. The year also saw exceptionally strong results for New York auctions, which totalled US$ 17.7 million, while London sales achieved a total of US$ 19.7 million.
Strong prices have been recorded for The Cheval Blanc, Yquem, Krug, Colgin Cellars, Louis Roederer and Hermitage La Chapelle direct from the Cellars Auctions.
Sotheby’s next big sale will be in April 2013, when the coveted elBulli Wine Cellar will be auctioned off. More here.
